Forest to complete signing of USA star Reyna from Dortmund

The 21-year-old has struggled in Germany this season but is finalising a loan move to the City Ground

Nottingham Forest are set to complete the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Gio Reyna in the next 24 hours.
Forest hope to pull off a significant coup with the capture of the United States international, who is scheduled to fly into England on Wednesday.
Reyna, 21, is keen to reboot his career after falling out of favour at the Bundesliga heavyweights and will join on a loan deal until the end of the season if the transfer is completed.
Reyna was recalled to the USMNT last year following a much-publicised row between his family and national team manager Gregg Berhalter following his lack of playing time at the 2022 World Cup.
Berhalter claimed that he almost sent a player – understood to be Reyna – home from the Qatar tournament amid reports of alleged poor behaviour.
In response to the allegations, Reyna’s mother, Danielle, contacted US Soccer’s former sporting director Earnie Stewart to report a previous domestic violence incident between Berhalter and his now wife Rosalind.
Forest are expecting a busy few days before the window closes on Thursday night, with Nuno Espírito Santo keen to make additions in a number of positions.
After being charged with a breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules earlier this month, though, Forest are mindful of making a net zero spend.
Lyon are in talks with Forest over a potential £20 million deal for midfielder Orel Mangala, who started in the 2-1 defeat by Arsenal on Tuesday night. There are likely to be other exits, with Scott McKenna, the Scotland international, moving to FC Copenhagen on loan on Tuesday. Divock Origi’s loan from AC Milan is set to be ripped up, while there could also be exits for Joe Worrall and Ethan Horvath.
Nuno said: “Since the window opened we have things going on. We have to wait and see what happens.”
Forest are prioritising a new goalkeeper and are expected to make another bid to sign Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on loan.
Real Betis goalkeeper Rui Silva has emerged as another option, and it is understood that the Portugal international has been discussed at some level.
Sheffield United have been knocked back with an offer to sign Worrall on loan, but the former Forest captain also has interest from Middlesbrough and Besiktas.
